In this video, I had my friend Alex come with me to Santa Cruz California to find out what Ironman athletes do for a living, how they afford such an expensive endurance sport/hobby, and the sacrifices they make to train for an event like this. I was actually competing this year in the Ironman 70.3 and I’ve always wondered what people who enter these races do, so you’ll get to learn about the careers the athletes have, the training routines, and the real costs behind racing, from $15,000+ bikes to 20-hour+ training weeks.

Be sure to watch this video until the end, as Alex will be finding out how people balance full-time jobs with Ironman training, along with the advice they offer for anyone considering doing their first triathlon. This video will give you a realistic idea of the time, money, and dedication it takes to do the Ironman, whether you’re a beginner or already training for your next race.
This was my first Ironman 70.3, and it was one of the hardest challenges I’ve ever done, but also one of the most rewarding. I spent months preparing, and even though it pushed me to my limits, I walked away with a huge appreciation for the sport and the athletes who do it year after year. If you’ve ever thought about doing a triathlon or testing yourself in an endurance event, I can honestly say the experience is worth every penny and hour of training.
