The Mous Limitless has been my top iPhone case for years now. BUT with the redesigned iPhone 17, is it still? From my in-depth testing, it’s got a fatal flaw.
I’m on a mission to find the best iPhone 17 Cases out there. I’m planning on reviewing 50 cases in order to figure out the Top 5. For the iPhone 17’s, I’ve updated my scoring system to include accelerometer/gyro level drop test data to figure out which cases will actually protect your iPhone.

Mous for iPhone 17 Pro Max Case, Compatible with MagSafe – Limitless Review
-the design of the case is awesome
-first all, it comes in a variety of finishes
-typical CF, leather and fabric versions
-i’m a big fan of the grips
-espeically on their iPhone Air case
-it’s the perfect amount of roughness
-doesn’t feel like you have to choke the phone edges
-you can just put a little pressure on the sides
-just enough to keep it in place
-and still enjoy the feel
-and if that wasn’t enough
-the grip strip on side come in clutch
-if you need a little extra help keeping things in hand
-this case is on the heavier side at 47g’s
-about 10g’s heavier than the previous case I reviewed
-for bulk, at it’s largest, this this case is going to make your iPhone feel 69% bigger
-when it comes the protection
-you’d expect this thing to be a tank
-it’s not as tanky as you think
-for corner drops, the initial impact was around 9.3g’s which is 10% better than the average case
-this case settles down quickly
-it spun 5% less than the average case
-it’s higher than the average case by about 9%
–
-and that’s the biggest problem with this multi-layered cases
-big initial drop protection but because of all the squishy rubber, the total force applied to iPhone is higher.
-but that’s not a bid thing because what would you rather?
-fall 10ft off a cliff, or roll the same height of 10ft, down a hill?
-the limitless is the roll, spreads the hit out so your iPhone survives the ride
-for face drops,
-the limitless didn’t fail my test because of the upgraded rigid top
-BUT initial hit was higher than average
-but was a rock start when it come to the bounce, almost 50% better than the average case
-overall total force was still higher BUT again,
-triple layered case
-for camera lump drops
-intial impact was very low
-the resultant bounces settled quickly
-and the overall force going into the iPhone was very average
-this is where the case shines
-This is a triple layered case with TPE, TPU and PC
-Mous has definatley cut down on the green TPE lately
-your iPhone sits on a bed of microfibre
-which is suppose to reduce scratching if debris gets caught between the case and phone
-BUT with the ceramic shield 2 glass on the back, that’s a super minor issue now
-for the iPhone 17 versions, the top of the case has been reinforced
-this is going to be important later on
-this case has corners that are 2.9mm thick, over 1.5 times thicker than the Apple cases
-the back thickness is between 2.7 and 2.8mm thick
-when it comes to back rigidity, this is actually the most bendy of the 4 cases I’ve reviewed so far
-requiring 33N to bend at 8mm
-still better than the average case by 11%
-for me, the MagSafe strength is the biggest red flag
-the magnets on the three Pro Max versions I have are terrible
-5.3 for Pull, 6.6 for push
-this case has a Magnetic strenght that’s 41% weaker than the average case
-on the Air version, it’s better at 7.7N and 8N but still below average
-in general, MagSafe accessories are still usable but barely
-Mous’s uses plastic flow through buttons
-they’re a bit smaller than last years cases
-the camera control button is baked into the case
-doens’t float like last year
-the big thing for me is the tapered edge
-this case feels thinner than the 3rd case I reviewed, the Apple clear case
-despite being thicker
